Phorpain Maximum Strength Ibuprofen Gel 10%

Overview

Phorpain Gel Maximum Strength contains ibuprofen and belongs to a group of medicines called non-steroid anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). These medicines reduce pain and inflammation, and bring down a high temperature.

Phorpain Gel Maximum Strength is used to treat a number of painful conditions affecting the joints and muscles such as back pain, sprains, strains and other sport injuries. It is also used for the relief of pain caused by non-serious arthritic conditions and nerve pain (neuralgia).

Directions

Phorpain Gel Maximum Strength is designed for topical (on the skin) application only. You should never take the gel by mouth.

The recommended dose is 2 to 5cm of gel from the tube on the affected area and should be massaged until absorbed. This dose should not be repeated more frequently than every four hours and no more than four times a day in any 24-hour period.

Side Effects

Phorpain Gel Maximum Strength can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. This includes allergic reactions, although serious allergic reactions are rare. The other side effects that can be experienced include abdominal pain, indigestion, and skin becoming sensitive to light.

How it works

Phorpain Maximum Strength Ibuprofen Gel 10% works through the same mechanism as the 5% formulation but delivers twice the concentration of ibuprofen for enhanced anti-inflammatory and analgesic effects. The higher concentration allows deeper tissue penetration and more potent local inhibition of COX enzymes, resulting in greater reduction of prostaglandin production at the site of injury.

This provides stronger relief for more severe muscle pain, joint inflammation, and sports injuries while maintaining the advantage of topical application – delivering targeted therapy with reduced systemic absorption and fewer gastrointestinal side effects than oral ibuprofen.

The active substance in Phorpain Maximum Strength Ibuprofen Gel 10% is ibuprofen. The other ingredients include hydroxyethylcellulose, sodium hydroxide, benzyl alcohol, isopropyl alcohol, purified water.

You should not use this medication if any of the following apply to you:

• if you are allergic to ibuprofen or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.
• if you are allergic to aspirin or similar medicines.
• if you are asthmatic or suffer from rhinitis or urticaria.
• using it on broken, damaged, infected or diseased skin.
• if you are in the last three months of pregnancy.
