How long does Preparation H take to shrink hemorrhoids?
Preparation H can start to relieve symptoms like itching, burning, and swelling within hours of application, but noticeable shrinking of haemorrhoids may take a few days of regular use. If symptoms persist beyond 7 days, you should stop treatment and speak to a doctor to rule out other conditions.
What does Preparation H do for under eyes?
Some people use Preparation H off-label to reduce puffiness under the eyes, as its ingredients can temporarily tighten skin and reduce swelling. However, this is not an approved use and can cause irritation if it gets in the eyes. Safer, purpose-made eye creams are recommended.
Which one is better, Preparation H or Anusol?
Preparation H and Anusol are both effective haemorrhoid treatments, but they differ in ingredients and formulation. Preparation H often contains hydrocortisone for inflammation and pramoxine for pain relief, while Anusol may contain zinc oxide and bismuth to protect and soothe. Choice depends on symptoms and medical advice.
Is Preparation H stronger than over-the-counter?
Most Preparation H products available in UK pharmacies are over-the-counter (OTC). Stronger formulations with higher corticosteroid content are usually prescription-only. Always follow pharmacist or GP advice on which strength is right for you.
Can I use hydrocortisone cream instead of Preparation H?
Hydrocortisone cream can reduce inflammation from haemorrhoids, but it won’t provide the same combination of protective and soothing effects found in Preparation H. Using a targeted haemorrhoid product is generally more effective than hydrocortisone alone.
