Gaviscon Advance Heartburn & Indigestion Tablets are used for the relief of heartburn and acid indigestion (also known as dyspepsia).
These are common and experienced by most people at some time. They may be felt as a burning sensation across the lower part of the chest, a pain spreading from the stomach towards the throat of regurgitation of a sour-tasting liquid.
What if I take too much Gaviscon Advance Heartburn & Indigestion Tablets?
If you take too much Gaviscon Advance Heartburn & Indigestion Tablets, it is unlikely to cause you any harm although you may feel bloated. Instead, consult your doctor or pharmacist if this feeling does not go away.
What if I forget a dose of Gaviscon Advance Heartburn & Indigestion Tablets?
If you forget to take a dose it is not necessary to double the dose next time. Instead, just carry on taking the medicine at the recommended dose.
Directions
The recommend dose for adults, including the elderly, and children 12 years and over is 5-10ml (one to two 5ml spoonful’s) after meals and at bedtime, or as directed. Any children aged under 12 years old should only take this medication if advised by a doctor.
Side Effects
Like all medications, Gaviscon Advance Heartburn & Indigestion Tablets can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them. If you are allergic to any of the ingredients in this medicine do not take it as it can cause side effects such as skin rashes and difficulty in breathing.

Gaviscon Advance Tablets work by forming a protective layer on top of the stomach contents. This barrier helps to stop acid from flowing back up into the oesophagus, which is the main cause of heartburn and indigestion. The tablets contain sodium alginate and potassium bicarbonate, which together soothe the burning sensation and reduce discomfort.

Ingredients
Each 10 ml of aniseed flavoured Gaviscon Advance contains sodium alginate Ph Eur 1000 mg and potassium bicarbonate Ph Eur 200 mg as the active ingredients. The other ingredients are calcium carbonate, carbomer, methyl and propyl hydroxybenzoates, sodium saccharin, sodium hydroxide, aniseed flavour derived from fennel, and purified water.
Warnings
You should not take Gaviscon Advance Heartburn & Indigestion Tablets if you know you are allergic to any of the ingredients as skin rashes and difficulty in breathing have been reported
